A massive news has come into the light about a month before the 2023 edition of Indian Premier League begins. This particular development might come in as a blow for 4-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings as newly recruited All-rounder Ben Stokes is in line to leave the tournament mid-way.
As we all know, a lot of franchises were inside a tug of war to obtain the services of the England captain who helped his national side win the ICC Cricket World cup in 2019 and the ICC Men’s T20 World cup in 2022. He is currently serving as the captain of the Three Lions red-ball team.
His side are currently touring New Zealand for a 2-match Test series. Stokes’ side has won the first one dominantly by 267 runs enroute Harry Brook’s blistering knock in both the innings and James Anderson’s 7-wickets in both the innings.
But the main news at the moment is that Ben Stokes could leave MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings at the ending phases of the tournament. The Englishman was bought by CSK for a whopping INR 16.25 Crore to move him from Rajasthan Royals.
The news broke out during a press conference ahead of the 2nd Test between ENG and NZ at the Basin Reserve stadium. The 31-year-old confirmed the news that he will leave CSK in order to join England for a one-off Test match at Lords’ before the Ashes begins on June.
“Yes, I’ll play. I’ll be making sure that I give myself enough time to get back and play that game.”
IPL 2023 will conclude on 28th of May while England vs Ireland begins from 1st of June. Amid the hectic cricketing schedule, Stokes’ decision could leave CSK on shambles and it remains to be seen who will replace Stokes if CSK reaches the Final.
