A Close Fight for Mixed Team Gold
The mixed team final was a thrilling encounter between the world’s top two nations in compound archery. India started aggressively, establishing a two-point lead after the first round. However, the American team bounced back with a perfect score in the third round to gain a one-point lead. While Jyothi and Priyansh needed a perfect score in the final round to force a tiebreaker, they fell two points short, allowing the USA to clinch the gold medal.
The Indian archery contingent has more reasons to celebrate. Prathamesh Fuge, a promising young archer, has a chance to add another medal to India’s tally. He will compete for his first individual World Cup podium finish against world number 7 James Lutz. Fuge has already impressed in the tournament, defeating the 2021 world champion in the quarterfinals.
The Indian archery team’s performance at the World Cup shows their preparation for the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024. The women’s team’s dominance and the mixed team’s silver medal showcase the immense talent that Indian archers have under their belts. With one athlete still in contention for an individual medal, the future looks bright for Indian archery on the global stage.
