Indian Football Team to play against Qatar in the upcoming AFC Qualifiers

The Asian Football Confederation who is responsible to conduct AFC cup consulted with top football governing body in the world which is FIFA and decided that the second round of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asia Cup China 2023 and their qualifiers will take place from October 2020 onwards.

The Indian Football team will be in action on October 8th after the Asian Football Confederation announced a new date for the matches to be conducted for the second round. India will play Qatar at home and then they will play with Bangladesh and Afghanistan on November 12th and 17th respectively away from home.

The match was already scheduled in March but due to this pandemic, the match was postponed to a later date. India is already in contention of the FIFA World Cup. The team is still reckoning for a spot in the 2023 AFC Asia Cup.

AFC clarified about choosing these dates in detail where one of the officials stated “Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 2 by November 2020 and to commence the subsequent FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Asian Qualifiers Final Round as well as the play-off matches for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Round 3 Qualifiers by the March 2021 match dates in the FIFA International Calendar.”

He further added that “The AFC will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety and well-being of all teams, officials, fans and stakeholders as well as government travel and medical restrictions and will notify all parties should there be a need to reassess the match schedules due to the ever-evolving impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,”.
