India U-17 women’s team head coach Thomas Dennerby said that his players are desperately waiting to return on the field post-COVID 19. India is currently going through Lockdown 4.0 to curb the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

He revealed on the live chat on the Indian Football Team Facebook page where he added that “ I think the girls are hungry to get back on the pitch. Football is their life. All they want to do is to play the game again”.

He further added that “They are now at the stage where they are attempting to reach the highest level. There are a lot of training routines that they need to maintain for them to reach the physical levels where they can perform on the pitch. But deep down, I can understand that they all want to get back on the pitch with the football once again”.

The U-17 women’s team was practising a few months before in Goa and they were given a break to meet their families after training in February. But due to lockdown, they are stuck in their home for quite some time now.

Dennerby who sees huge potential in U-17 girls and comes with a lot of experience as he guided Sweden to the third spot in 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, a quarterfinal finish in 2012 Olympics.

Dennerby concluded by saying that “This is the perfect opportunity for the girls to show everyone what they can do, at the highest level. How many people get such an opportunity”.

As he believes some of the players in the U-17 team are ready to face the pressure situations and work needs to be done on the remaining players to soak up the pressure at the highest level.
