India Register Historic Victory in Pink Ball Test, Sweep Series 2-0

India clean sweep Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s misery continues in the longer format of the game as they suffered yet another innings defeat against India in the historic pink-ball Test at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Coming to day three of the Test, it was only about time for the hosts India to wrap things up as Mushfiqur Rahim was batting with the tail-enders.

India only took 43 minutes on day three to finish things off and after Mushfiqur’s dismissal on 74, the injured Mahmudullah decided to not bat again. Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav were battling it hard for the five-wicket haul and it was Umesh in the end, who managed to take a fifer after picking up the final wicket of Al-Amin Hossain.

With this victory, India strengthened their position in the ICC World Test Championship, retaining the top position with 360 points. The hosts also managed to create some historic records in the historic pink-ball Test. It was their first-ever victory at home where the spin bowlers didn’t pick any wicket. Ishant Sharma alone took 9 wickets in this Test and grabbed both the man of the match & the series award.

Kohli and his men are also on a hot streak as they won their seventh consecutive Test match. It was also their fourth consecutive Test win by an innings and 12th consecutive home Test victory.

The fast bowlers have yet again stolen all the spotlight with their brilliant exhibition of pace, swing and bounce.  They have been dominant against some top Test-playing nations and with away Test series coming up against Australia and New Zealand next year, we can except an absolute cracker of a battle.

The focus now shifts again to the limited-overs format for India as they will host West Indies for three T20Is and three ODIs next month.
