IND WI 2nd Test: Mukesh Kumar makes a well deserved Debut at Trinidad

Mukesh Kumar

29-year-old Bihar-born pacer Mukesh Kumar makes his well deserved Test debut for India during the 2nd Test against West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval. Rohit Sharma’s side decided to reward Mukesh at the expense of Shardul Thakur who picked only 1 wicket in the 1st test at Dominica.

With India winning the Dominica Test without facing any difficulty, they are expected to slander the Windies once again. And there could have never been a better opportunity than this for Mukesh Kumar to make his debut.

This is the first time that he finds himself in the Playing XI and it will be his first real chance to shine. He made himself noticed during his debut season in the IPL earlier this year with the Delhi Capitals. He picked up 7 wickets in 10 matches.

His best attribute overall was a brilliant awareness of line and length. Mukesh Kumar has a nice simple action with a profound way of releasing the ball from his fingers. He can constantly hit the good length, doesn’t lose his composure and always sticks to the plan.

Kumar represents Bengal in First class cricket where he has racked up 149 Wickets in just 39 matches and 70 Innings. Since making his debut in 2015 it was only this year that teams in the IPL went for a war for him. His base price of 20 Lakhs went all the way up to 5.50 Crores as DC tussled their way to bring him on board.

Though his numbers in white ball are questionable but he can be an asset for India in red ball cricket. Can he make his opportunity count?
