ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: Can Shabnim Ismail use the home conditions to her and her team’s advantage at the World Cup?

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is just upon us and all the teams are preparing for it in full flow. The Australian Women’s team, who are the defending champions are preparing a little extra because defending the title is more difficult than winning it. The tournament is scheduled to begin on 10th February 2023 where the hosts South Africa Women will take on Sri Lanka Women. The marquee event will be played in 3 South African cities of Cape Town, Paarl, and Gqeberha over a period of 17 days.

The current world number 5 bowler according to the ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings Shabnim Ismail is the bowler everyone should look forward to in the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. She has 693 rating points and has climbed up two places on the rankings.

Shabnim Ismail is a very different kind of fast bowler. She has raw pace, can bowl proper bouncers and most importantly her cutter bowls are very effective. She knows the African conditions well and can be the player to watch out for. It will be interesting to see how she uses the home advantage to her benefit at the World Cup.

She did not play a lot of matches in the past year but her economy was great in the 7 innings she played. Ismail bowled with an economy of just 6.03 runs per over and took 5 wickets. She is not in great form right now but has all the abilities to be the best fast bowler in the world.

In the home conditions, teams should be scared of Shabnim Ismail as she can be very lethal with the white kookaburra in her hand coming at the batter with express pace and different variations.
