ICC Annual General Meeting 2025 : Test Tier Format Discussion; T20 and ODI World Cup Plans to be Discussed in Singapore

The International Cricket Council is all set to take some of the most important decisions related to Cricket today in Singapore.

The Discussion Pointers will be based on several factors which include:

1. Test Tier Format.

2. T20 World Cup

3. ODI World Cup

4. Cricket Inclusivity.

Let’s decode them all one by one in the sequential format:

1.  Test Tier Format: 

The Cricket Board including the likes of England and Wales (ECB) and Cricket Australia have already expressed their sentiments to form a Test Tier format going forward.

Going by past track records, BCCI would certainly join this group.

The clarity about Tier Test Cricket Format would come soon however the discussion would be based on Fund allocations and adopting the concept like Permutations and Combinations unlike Football.

Also decoding this in laymen language would mean, that there is clear but bifurcation whenever we see test cricket where some of the teams including the likes of – India, Australia,England, New Zealand and South Africa are playing different brand of Cricket unlike other countries so clear  bifurcation is needed and the team who doesn’t do well so go out( relegated) and the bottom rank teams who are doing well should be promoted.

Also based on updates in different media outlets, if any changes take place It would start from next cycle 2027-2029

2. T20 World Cup: 

The Discussion in T20 World Cup will be based on introducing more teams in T20 competitions especially India who have qualified for next year world cup is a great sign for Gentlemen’s game.

The game expansion is required and it is only possible due to T20 Format where for new users you can gauge their attention and make them hook for watching entire game in 3-4 hours through scintillating fours and sixes and amazing bowling display.

The next year T20 World Cup would have inclusion of 24 teams in the marquee event which is clear sign that the format and the game is reaching towards every shores.

3. ODI World Cup: 

Many Fans and ex experts have already echoed their voice that something needs to be done urgently for ODI Cricket so that it didn’t get extinct.

The discussion would be around establishing those policies which would take ODI format forward and what can be done so that most teams could play this format and the game should be presented in such a way that it gauges the attention of people who come in huge numbers to support their favorite team.

4. Cricket Inclusivity: 

We have seen it in the past, Cricket Inclusivity is very important factor that everyone needs to keep in mind, and the game expansion in other parts of the world as the involvement of fans and players from those cities where game is not popular would be biggest hall mark for ICC to spread their wings and allow rest of the countries to take part in the marquee event.

The discussion pointers seems correct as the gentlemen’s game should be promoted in all parts of the world so that most people could come up the ranks and play for their country.
