Gambhir asks BCCI to dissolve DDCA; Here’s why

Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to dissolve the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) and demanded for the officials to be banned after they were involved in a scuffle during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday.

A DDCA release stated that the members passed all the agendas, but sources mentioned that the AGM had had its share of in-fighting, with blows getting exchanged. Joint secretary Rajan Manchanda was even slapped by Maqsood Alam during the meeting.

Gambhir, who played for Delhi, termed the incident as shameful and took to Twitter to vent out his anger.

“DDCA GOES “ALL OUT” …AND DDCA IS ALL OUT FOR A SHAMEFUL DUCK. Look, how handful of crooks are making mockery of an institution. I’d urge @BCCI @SGanguly99 @JayShah to dissolve @delhi_cricket immediately. Surely, sanctions or even a life ban for those involved,” Gambhir tweeted.

A source further added that the AGM was “disrupted by supporters of general secretary Vinod Tihara after resolution 3, 4 and removal of its Ombudsman Justice (Retd) Badar Durrez Ahmed was defeated by almost 75 percent” of the members.

The DDCA had appointed Justice (Retd) Deepak Verma as its new Ombudsman replacing Badar just a day after the DDCA asked its members to exercise restraint. It was on Badar’s suggestion that the AGM was video recorded.

“The supporters of Vinod Tihara also manhandled MLA Shri Om Prakash Sharma and the attendance register was also snatched,” the source added.

Gambhir has now turned into an MLA from the BJP party. East Delhi is his constituency.
