FIFA lifts suspension on All India Football Federation

Finally some good news for Indian football fans as on Friday FIFA lifted the suspension of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

FIFA took the decision to lift the suspension and stated “was taken after FIFA received confirmation that the mandate of the committee of administrators that was set up to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee had been terminated and that the AIFF administration had regained full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs,” 

“FIFA and the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) will continue to monitor the situation and will support the AIFF in organizing its elections in a timely manner.”

On Tuesday, FIFA announced the suspension of AIFF for “undue influence from third parties” and for time begin India lost the opportunity to host Under-17 Women’s World cup which was scheduled in October.

With the latest update, FIFA released a statement “the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 scheduled to take place on 11-30 October 2022 will be held in India.”

Earlier the suspension by FIFA was released on August 16th, As FIFA had warned Praful Patel and All India Football Federation that they will face a ban and will lose the opportunity to host the Under-17 Women’s World Cup in India.

According to schedule, AIFF was supposed to held elections by December 2020. However, the elections were keep getting delayed and failed to finalize it’s constitution.

Before the FIFA declared an ban on AIFF, India’s Supreme Court disperse All India Football Federation in May and declared a three-member committee to run the football in India and announced AIFF to stop their federation and will not get involved in any type sporting activity with further notice.

The three member-committee will manage the federation independently and its own decision will not influenced by third parties,” according to FIFA

Earlier, India Supreme Court disintegrate the Committee of Administrators and will allowed FIFA to finally lift the suspension.

Former Indian football Skipper, Bhaichung Bhutia after FIFA lifted the ban imposed on AIFF “It’s time to change the system,”

“It’s a wonderful news. I welcome the decision of the FIFA to lift the suspension on AIFF. It’s a win for Indian football, nothing else,”Bhutia told PTI.

“I am extremely happy for our young players as they will now be able to play against the best in the business in their age group in the Women’s U-17 World Cup.”

Former India Football Legend, Bhaichung Bhutia also entered the nomination papers for the vacant AIFF president post in the upcoming elections which is on September 2nd. Bhutia also mentioned its the right time to bring the necessary changes in nation’s football federation to avoid suspension for Indian football in future.
