Edinson Cavani Biography: Edinson Cavani a.k.a ‘the unsung hero’ is an Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a striker for the Uruguay national team and Paris Saint-Germain. The ‘modern striker’ is famous for his quick, strong, opportunistic and astonishing techniques.

Born and raised in Salto, he got his major breakthrough back in 2007 at the South American Youth Championship in the age of 20. In 2010, he signed a five-year contract with the Italian club Napoli. Playing for Napoli, he became the leading goal-scorer of his team at Coppa Italia of 2011-12, which the team eventually wins.

He played magnificently in the first three seasons with the Italian club and netted 100 goals. In 2013 he was bought by the French Club PSG on the account of most expensive deal in the history of the French football. For the club, he brought three League Championships, three Coupes de France and four Coupes de la Ligue championships. For his Uruguayan national team, he had played a major role in winning their 2011 Copa America tournament, He had been the top scorer of the  CONMEBOL 2018 World Cup Qualification with 10 goals.

EARLY LIFE

Edinson was won on 14th February 1987 in Salto, Uruguay to Luis Cavani (father) and Berta Gomez
(mother). He was the youngest child among his 2 brothers in the family. Right from his childhood
days, Edinson was in love with football, unlike other children who play with the children of same age group. Edinson plays against older peers, who sometimes bully or roughed him up. Edinson was an opportunistic child since his childhood days. He was always busy finding his path to stardom.

When he moved to Danubio, his passion and talent soon got recognition. Afterwards, he was signed for an official youth contract with Danubio, Montevideo’s most popular and successful youth academy who had produced players like Alvaro Recoba and Diego Forlan. His initial professional football days were not so good, however coming from a family of footballers helped him a lot. His dad and elder brother gave him all the necessary assistance he needed for a kick start in his career.

Edinson married his childhood girlfriend Maria Soledad, the couple had two sons Bautista and Lucas, whom he never missed to take at any of his victory celebrations. The relationship of Edinson with Maria didn’t go well as in 2014 the couple got separated.

After the bitter divorce, Edinson started a new relationship with Jocelyn Burgardt, who is a dancer and model by profession.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Playing for Danubo he was selected for the national Under-20 team who played the 2007 ‘South
American Youth Championship’. He finished the tournament as the top goal scorer through netting
seven goals in nine games for the club. The team under his assistance reached the semi-finals and
was also qualified in 2017 Under-20 FIFA World Cup. His staggering performance attracted several
big South American and European teams like Milan and Juventus who lined up to acquire him, but in the race to acquire him Italian football club Palermo won, for the club in the 2008-09 season he
netted 14 goals, due his performance in the season he got a new nickname El Matador, which is a
Spanish word used for Killer it is especially related to Bullfighters. In 2009-10 season he literally
performed like an El Matador in the Serie A to qualify his team for the UEFA Champions League, he was signed for another contract but was loaned to Napoli in July 2010. Playing for Napoli in the Serie A of 2010-11 he scored in the first four matches, at the end of the season he shared the honor of being the lead scorer of the tournament with Samuel Et’o. He netted two Hat-tricks at the UEFA Europa League in January and became to leading goal scorer for his team with 25 goals for which, he was signed for another deal for five years with Napoli in May 2011. He began the 2011-12 with a hat-trick against Milan and finished the league season with 23 goals, climbing the list he acquired the third spot in the top goal-scorers list. His most memorable goal in the 2011-12 season was then when he scored on a penalty in the finals for the Coppa Italia against the Juventus to ensure his team’s win. In July 2013, Napoli signed a contract that transferred Edinson to PSG for five years, the transfer worth was 64 million Euros, which was the sixth-biggest deal ever signed in the history of the French Club.

Playing at the finals of Coupe de la Ligue for the club he netted two crucial goals to ensure his team’s victory. In the first season for PSV, he appeared in 43 matches and netted 25 goals. Later playing for PSG he brought Coupe de Ligue, Coupe de France, Ligue 1 victories for the club. In 2008 he made his debut for the Uruguayan national team, he secured the 2011 Copa America for the team hence making Uruguay the champions for the 15th time in a row. He has also been part of the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualification tournament.
