Dwight Powell suffers right Achilles injury during a game against Clippers

 

Dallas Mavericks Centre Dwight Powell suffered a severe injury playing against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday. He just played nine minutes in the game before sustaining a torn Achilles during the match.

The American Airlines Centre became silent the moment the incident took place. Mavericks were then without Powell for the rest of the game after Powell’s exit when just the last three minutes were left in the first quarter to end. Multiple replays showed Powell in tremendous pain as his coach Rick Carlisle said that the club would wait for his MRI test reports in order to examine the extent of his injury.powell-out-with-achillies-injury

JJ Barea, his team-mate had sustained a similar injury last season was distraught as Powell was taken off the court.

“It doesn’t get much tougher than this, if it ends up being what we fear it might,” Carlisle said. “But he will be back, regardless. There’s just some guys you just know, they have a level of resourcefulness, a level of fight in them. Barea’s one of them. Powell’s another. He’ll be back.”

Doncic led the Mavericks with a near triple-double, finishing with 36 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. However, Mavericks couldn’t win the contest as they were handed defeat off the Clippers by 107-110. Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 36 points and 11 rebounds.

Powell who is in the final year of a four-year of the $37 million deal with Dallas, is averaging 9.6 points per game, and he has a plus-9.1 net rating. Meanwhile, Dallas Mavericks are currently fifth in the Western Conference with a record of 27-16.
