"Dhoni made us bite the dust after eating Butter Chicken and Roti" - Suresh Raina recalls first interaction with MSD!

The Immortal legend of Indian cricket MS Dhoni when he first came up as a cricket was among a very unique set of players who appeared in the scene at that point of time. When he first appeared on the Indian cricket stage Dhoni created a niche of his own and took the scene by a storm.

The Ranchi-born, Jharkhand cricketer’s attitude and enigma was unlike others. His calmness earned him the famous name of “Captain Cool”. Following his ODI debut for the Indian cricket team in 2004, Dhoni quickly rose to fame due to his unconventional shots and strategy.

Although he struggled in his first 4 ODIs and had scores of 0,12,7 and 3 he shrugged off all the doubts in his 5th One Dayer against arch rivals Pakistan as he smacked 148 runs. And as years went by, MSD became India’s captain and we all know what took place in 2007, 2011 and 2013.

He is also responsible for the success of IPL outfit Chennai Super Kings as he delivered 4-IPL trophies as the Captain. Dhoni will be back this season and one of his former brigadiers Suresh Raina spoke about the first time he had an interaction MSD.

Raina had played against Dhoni in the domestic circuit and the former recalled seeing Dhoni having Roti and Butter chicken before Central Zone and East Zone squared up for their tie.

This one day, we all were hanging around while Dhoni bhai quietly was eating his roti and butter chicken in a corner. Gyanu bhai saw him and said, I really don’t think he’s going to do us any damage. He’s enjoying his food; let him do that.”

And when the match actually began, Dhoni smacked the opposition hard and Mohammad Kaif who was the captain of Central Zone remember Dhoni hitting sky scraping sixers.

“From the word go, he hit gagan chumbhi (touching the sky) sixes, and Gyanu bhai had to eat his words.” Raina concluded.
