Talking about COVID-19 hit Italy’s infelicitous situation, the former Barcelona footballer, Demetrio Albertini described the country’s battle with the novel coronavirus as playing one of the most important games in its history.
The player elucidated how the deadly virus outbreak has all of a sudden drastically changed the way Italians live on the official website of Barcelona FC.
“Unfortunately, as almost the whole planet, we Italians have the job of overcoming one of the most dangerous opponents we have ever come across: Covid-19. It is a difficult challenge and every one of us has to be at their best so that the country can defeat this virus. However, I have no doubt that we will help each other achieve this goal and that before too long we can say that we have beaten our biggest enemy.”, the in-charge of youth football for the Italian FA, Albertini quoted.
However, after finding out that the north of Italy was at high risk and before the government decided to lock down the country, the player traveled to Tuscany, close to Coverciano where the Italian FA training center and his office are situated, along with his family to get away from the contagious areas and carry out his obligations with the Italian FA.
The player summed up his isolation period as being connected with the internet 24 hours and taking part in online campaigns to support the hospital resources.
On a positive note, he said, “Now, however, faced with the exceptional circumstances which surround us, it is time to think as a group and all pull in the same direction. We will win again as we have always and we will once again demonstrate that working together, no-one can stop us.”
Italy is one of the worst-hit countries by this pandemic with 4,825 deaths till now.
