DDCA Sacks Atul Wassan, the entire Junior Selection Committee

A new chapter of confusion and mess was added to the Delhi and District Cricket Association’s administrative history when they sacked two senior selectors and the entire junior selection committee on Wednesday. Former India cricketer Atul Wassan was removed from the post of chairman of the DDCA senior selection committee. He was replaced by former batsman Bantoo Singh.

According to reports the decision was taken by the newly formed Cricket Advisory Committee(CAC) of DDCA which comprised of Robin Singh (Jr), Parwinder Awana and Sumit Narwal decided to do away with the selectors Atul Wassana and Vineet Jain. The decision was taken by two members of the CAC namely Robin Singh (Jr) and Parwinder Awana, both had earlier served as the coaches in the junior category this season. The third member Sumit Narwal was not part of the meeting which was chaired by Sanjay Bhardwaj.

Atul Wasan has been removed from his past as DDACA officials say he was hardly available and was busy with his other commitments like commentary. On the other hand, Vineet Jain was removed because he did not belong to the state and was an outsider. Bantoo Singh who replaces Wassan was initially not considered for the post as he did not meet the eligibility criteria while Chetnya Nanda, has replaced Vineet Jain.

The CAC also revamped the junior selection committee which will now consist of Ashu Dani, Pradeep Chawla, and Karan Dubey.

What has added to the confusion is that the Justice (Retd.) Badar Durrez Ahmed, DDCA’s ombudsman had requested against fiddling with any committee, however, the association did not pay any heed to his request and went ahead and changed the three-man selection panel.

It is to be noted that the former India pacer Wassan was appointed as the chairman of the senior selection committee of the DDCA for the 2019-20 season in August this year.
