Indian women’s Lawn bowls team created history

India’s women’s lawn bowls team has created history as they defeated New Zealand 16-13 in the semifinal of the Women’s Fours event in Lawn Bowls to assure India’s first-ever final at the Commonwealth Games.

The Indian women’s lawn team consists of 4 members named, Lovely Choubey, Pinki Chaudhary, Nayanmoni Saikia, and Rupa Rani won India’s first-ever medal in the Lawn sport. It was the first time India has reached the finals of a sport that is unknown to many Indian fans.

New Zealand women’s lawn team of Selina Goddard, Nicole Toomey, Tayla Bruce, and Val Smith started the game on a high note as the New Zealand women’s team took an early lead of 5-0 after the two rounds. India was struggling early in the game and after the four ends, NZ women’s lawn team was ahead 6-1. 

However, Team India started to gain momentum and started to earn valuable points as they scored 7 points straight and stopped NZ on 6 points, and claimed the 7-6 lead for the first time in the match.

 

For the final round, both the teams were scoring points and the match was side by side, and team New Zealand was just leading with one point difference as the score was 13-12 in the final round.

In the final round, India’s Pinki Chaudhary started with an outstanding couple of throws, and Nayanmoni Saikia also made beautiful throws to gain the early lead for India but New Zealand once more made a comeback as New Zealand also made two throws to keep the score same.

However, India’s Rupa Rani with her final throws claimed four points as it was enough to claim India one more medal. In the finals, Team India will be facing team, South Africa, in the finals of the event and one win away from scripting history.
