Cricket South Africa urges ICC’s intervention after Australia postpone South Africa Tour

Cricket South Africa is not happy with the way Australian cricket board cancelling the tour at the last moment.

They have written to ICC asking it to consider the repercussions faced by less wealthy cricket boards when scheduled tour are called off or postponed.

However Cricket Australia citied huge number of COVID-19 cases in South Africa as the reason why they have cancelled the tour to South Africa.

International series started in South Africa when England tour there for three T20Is and three ODIs . However the series was not completed after report of COVID-19 cases submerged. But after few months they hosted Sri Lanka for two match Test series.

Kangaroos were supposed to play proteas in the latter backyard in February 2021 as a part of World Test Championship.  The strange part is that Australian selectors picked 19 man squad for the South Africa series . The postponement of the series is a major financial blow to CSA, which has already lost money after England pulled out of the ODI series.

CSA the letter wrote to ICC stated that Australia pulling up at the last moment is against the spirit of cricket and proper actions needs to be taken on this as their decision has impacted us financially.

The report further stated that the letter was not a formal complaint and the CSA wrote it to the ICC as a means of opening communication about finding the best possible outcome to maintain the international cricket schedule during the Covid-19 pandemic.

However there is no possibility to organizing the series in the near future as the two boards have not discussed an alternative date to hold the series. However the moment Australia pulled out of the upcoming series against South Africa which means that New Zealand have qualified as the finalist for the maiden World Test Championship final in Lords on June 18th 2021.
