Craig McMillan likely to be appointed Bangladesh's batting consultant for SL series

Former New Zealand cricketer Craig McMillan is likely to be appointed as Bangladesh’s batting consultant for their Test series against Sri Lanka in October.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has shown interest in the former as the side’s batting consultant after Neil McKenzie opt-out of the Sri Lanka tour.

McKenzie is the regular Test batting consultant of Bangladesh will not fly to Sri Lanka, owing to the fact that the team will travel one month prior to the series. This will help them to get used to the conditions and also get in the groove after six months of drought.

BCB chairman Akram Khan also affirmed that the board has approached McMillan for the role only on a short term basis.

“His [McKenzie] chances of going to Sri Lanka are 50-50,” Akram told Cricbuzz.

“We are trying to convince him [McKenzie] as we want him, but he does not seem to be keen, and if that is the case, we will have to find someone as a replacement, but he will be appointed on a short-term basis. We are talking with a few other candidates and McMillan is one of them, but nothing is finalized at the moment… we are hoping to sort out the matter soon,” he added.

McMillan stepped down as the batting coach of New Zealand after the 2019 World Cup last year. During his tenure, he helped the Black Caps reach the finals of the 2015 and 2019 World Cups.
