The 9th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 happened between the Saint Lucia Kings and Trinbago Knight Riders. This was completely dominated by the Saint Lucia Kings, since the beginning of the first innings. They were able to create pressure on the bowlers of the opponents. The biggest role in the batting unit was played by Faf du Plessis, because he went on to get a brilliant fifty, and ensured to maintain a healthy partnership. He and J. Charles gave a brilliant opening stand to the team.
Contribution of Dad du Plessis:
The contribution of Faf du Plessis was the main pillar of the final score that the team was able to achieve. He stood there for the team for the first 10 overs. His partnership with Charles was certainly of a very high standard as per the T20 format. You can read more about his contribution below.
- Saint Lucia Kings batted first and looked from the beginning that they were quite determined to have a good opening stand. They were successfully able to do that, by getting the opening stand of 85 runs, only in 9.4 overs. It was Du Plessis who was charged up, and played the captain’s knock. He scored a brilliant 57 of only 36 balls. In the end, it was Russell who got his wicket.
- Charles played slow and ensured to rotate the strike. He had a short partnership with Rajapaksa. They took the score from 85 to 108.
- However, once Charles got out, it was Raza and Rajapaksa who got a good partnership. They were successfully able to take the score to 157 runs.
- The Final score of the innings for them was 167 for 5.
- Trinbago Knight Riders had a target of 168 runs in front of them. They got a fine opening stand of 33, but the whole team crumbled at the score of 113 runs.
Saint Lucia Kings went on to win the match with a big margin of 54 runs. This was certainly a brilliant win for them. All thanks to Faf du Plessis.
