Pakistan is ramping up its preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup, but the cricket fever doesn’t stop there. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is setting its sights on another monumental event—the Champions Trophy 2025. This prestigious tournament is set to be hosted across three iconic locations: Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi.
Sources within the PCB have revealed that a draft fixture has already been shared with the International Cricket Council (ICC). Notably, all of India’s matches are slated to take place in Lahore. This strategic decision aims to minimize travel for the Indian team, ensuring their convenience throughout the tournament. Furthermore, should India qualify for the semifinals, the venue will be shifted to Lahore accordingly, streamlining logistical arrangements.
Mohsin Naqvi, the current President of Pakistan, expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the Champions Trophy on home soil. Speaking to media outlets, Naqvi conveyed Pakistan’s eagerness to welcome cricketing rivals, particularly India, to participate in this grand event. The prospect of India’s presence adds an extra layer of excitement and anticipation for fans across both nations.
In response to these developments, Rajiv Shukla, Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), emphasized that India’s participation hinges upon government approval. Shukla emphasized the protocol followed by the BCCI, stating that the board adheres strictly to the directives of the Indian government. He affirmed that should the government permit their involvement, India will eagerly embrace the opportunity to compete in these prestigious tournaments.
“The case of the Champions Trophy underscores our unwavering commitment to abide by the decisions of the Indian government,” Shukla emphasized in an interview with ANI. He reiterated that the BCCI operates within the parameters set by governmental authorities, prioritizing compliance and adherence to national regulations.
The Champions Trophy holds significant historical resonance, with the upcoming edition marking its return after an eight-year hiatus. The last iteration of the tournament took place in 2017, a memorable event that culminated in Pakistan clinching victory over arch-rivals India in a thrilling final. As anticipation builds for the forthcoming tournament, cricket enthusiasts eagerly anticipate witnessing top-tier teams battle it out for supremacy on the cricketing stage.
A total of eight formidable teams are set to vie for glory in the upcoming Marquee event. Hosts Pakistan will be joined by cricketing powerhouses such as India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, England, and Bangladesh. Each team brings its own unique blend of talent, skill, and strategy, promising a spectacle of cricketing excellence that is sure to captivate audiences worldwide.
With preparations in full swing and anticipation reaching a fever pitch, the stage is set for the Champions Trophy to unfold amidst a backdrop of excitement, competition, and camaraderie.
