BJ Watling names Indian bowling duo among the most toughest he has faced

BJ Watling

New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman, BJ Watling revealed the most toughest bowler he has faced till now in his cricketing carrier. Currently, he is regarded  as one of the the best wicket-keepers batsman in the world. He made his debut in 2009 and since then he has become regular member of New Zealand Test squad.

During his 11 years of International cricket he has faced the world class bowling lineup and he has been consistent with the bat for kiwis.

In the beginning of 2020, he was named in ICC Test Team of the year where he was instrumental with the bat for New Zealand in 2019 and also scored a double century at home during the series win against England.

In a Video podcast interview with ESPN Cricinfo, he revealed the best bowling duo he has faced in his carrier where he picked Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja when playing in India and fast bowling pair of Steyn and Morkel while playing in South Africa.

“When it’s turning in India it’s obviously very tough to play any spinner, really,” BJ Watling said. “The likes of [Ravichandran] Ashwin and [Ravindra] Jadeja, if conditions are in their favour, it is extremely hard work to score runs in itself, and to not get out.

“But facing guys like Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel in South Africa, that’s a pretty tough challenge. I think they have some of the quicker wickets in the world and obviously it cracks up late in the games. And those types of test matches can be very daunting, with those types of bowlers coming at you,” he added.

He has represented New Zealand in 70 Test matches and scored 3658 runs at a batting average of 38.50 .
