Big Breaking: Paris Olympics Medalist Aman Sehrawat banned for a year due to Weight Violation
Indian Wrestling is heading towards Ultimate disaster, it all happened due to failure in terms of how they run this entire ecosystem.
The latest hit in this regard is related to Aman Sehrawat, who won bronze medal for India in Paris Olympics 2024 has been banned for 1 year due to weight violation.
The decision was taken by Wrestling Federation of India, this marks the first time any Indian athelete who bagged Olympic medal have been banned for a year.
The decision was taken after Aman Sehrawat was banned following his disqualification from the recent World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb(Crotia) after failing to make weight ahead of his opening bout against Vladmir Erogov of North Macedonia in the Men’s Freestyle 57 kg category.
He was found overweight by 1.7 Kg leading to his disqualification consequently the 22 year old who is also two time Junior World Champion will miss the Asian Games in Japan next year.
This ban is going to impact his career big time as he would not be able to compete in next year Asiad Tournament running from 19th September 2026 to October 4 2026.
His entry in this Upcoming marquee event would not be entertained by organizers which would not be entertained the organizers.
He was issued a show cause notice by the Federation on September 23rd 2025 upon his return to India from Zagreb.

Aman and his coaches were told to submit responses by September 29th to the federation.
After formal hearing conducted on October 5th 2025 it was attended by Federation president Sanjay Singh and medical team , in the end response given by Aman Sehrawat wasn’t upto the mark.
Eventually WFI president and officials made their verdict on Aman Sehrawat Being banned for 1 years and the coaches have been swept away with warning.
The letter released by World Wrestling Federation of India stated that Aman’s discretion have completely tarnished the image of India at global level.
“Your (Aman) reply dated September 29th 2025, as duly reviewed by the WFI disciplinary committe. Additionally clarifications were obtained from the Chief coach and supporting coaching staff. Upon through examination, The committee found your response unsatisfactory has resolved to imposed strict disciplinary action. Accordingly you are hereby suspended from all wrestling activities both at National and International level for a period of one year effective from date of the show cause notice” read letter signed by Singh.
“The Suspension is on the following grounds, you were disputed to attend. You were deputed to attend he accumulation camp at Porec. Croatia commencing from August 25th 2005, providing sufficient time to maintain your weight and fitness. Despite reporting 18 days prior to your scheduled bout, you were disqualified from the Championship due to being overweight by 1.7Kg. As an Olympic Medalist, WFI holds you to the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and committment. Failure to adhere to these standards, particularly in managing your weight, has not only impacted your personal credibility but also tarnished the image of nation on the global stage, causing disappointment among the wrestlers fraternity and supporters” the letter added.
Singh said that their decision is full and final it further added that “You failed to maintain the prescribed weight category (57 kg) for which you were officially selected, thereby depriving India of a potential medal opportunity and causing significant financial losses due to expenditure incurred by Government of India for your participation and training. This decision is final and binding. During the period of suspension you are barred from participating or associating with any activities organised or sanctioned by WFI or both National and International levels” the letter further stated.
He has been hailed as successor of Tokyo Olympics Silver medalist Ravi Dahiya and some other players in the past have also been banned due to excessive weight one such player is none other than Neha Sangwan.
