Accordingly you are hereby suspended from all wrestling activities both at National and International level for a period of one year effective from date of the show cause notice” read letter signed by Singh.
“The Suspension is on the following grounds, you were disputed to attend. You were deputed to attend he accumulation camp at Porec. Croatia commencing from August 25th 2005, providing sufficient time to maintain your weight and fitness. Despite reporting 18 days prior to your scheduled bout, you were disqualified from the Championship due to being overweight by 1.7Kg. As an Olympic Medalist, WFI holds you to the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and committment. Failure to adhere to these standards, particularly in managing your weight, has not only impacted your personal credibility but also tarnished the image of nation on the global stage, causing disappointment among the wrestlers fraternity and supporters” the letter added.
Singh said that their decision is full and final it further added that “You failed to maintain the prescribed weight category (57 kg) for which you were officially selected, thereby depriving India of a potential medal opportunity and causing significant financial losses due to expenditure incurred by Government of India for your participation and training. This decision is final and binding. During the period of suspension you are barred from participating or associating with any activities organised or sanctioned by WFI or both National and International levels” the letter further stated.
He has been hailed as successor of Tokyo Olympics Silver medalist Ravi Dahiya and some other players in the past have also been banned due to excessive weight one such player is none other than Neha Sangwan.
