BCCI likely to send their second string squad for Asia Cup 2021

Asia Cup T20

One of the prime tournaments which involves all the Asian teams competing against each other for the title which is scheduled in Sri Lanka is likely to get postponed as India who is one of the powerhouses of Asia as well as in the world has qualified for the World Test Championship finals scheduled in the month of June 2021 at Lords.

And Asia Cup in Sri Lanka is also assigned in the same window which means that the latter event will be canceled.

However, a new report has been emerged which states that the world’s richest board might send their second strength team for Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.

India are scheduled to tour England for a five-Test series and the players will likely stay back in the United Kingdom after the WTC final. After the tour of England, India will host the T20 World Cup and the BCCI are unlikely to send the main players for the Asia Cup, according to a report in the Times of India.

“There’s no other choice. We can’t risk the preparation for the series in England. And cricketers can’t twice undergo quarantine. If the Asia Cup happens, India will have no option but to send a second-string squad,” top sources told the news outlet.

However the second strength side will mean that the team will be without the likes of Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah. India have last two edition of the Asia cup and will be eyeing for hatrick this year however considering all possibilities Asia cup will be cancelled. India is also the most successful team in the history of Asia Cup with seven titles to their name.
