Barcelona FC and Spain’s legend Xavi Hernandez has tested positive for the coronavirus, confirmed by his current club Al Sadd SC on Saturday. Xavi is the head coach of Qatar based Al Sadd football club and he has been sent into quarantine after his test for COVID-19 came positive.

This development takes place on the day the club resumes playing after almost four months due to coronavirus. Al Sadd is slated to play against Al Khor in the ongoing Qatar Stars League today, however, Xavi won’t be joining his side ahead of this game.

“Today I won’t be able to join my team on their comeback to the official competition.” he wrote in his Tweet

As per the reports, David Prats will be filling in his place as the interim coach of the side and also as the head of the technical staff.

After Xavi’s test came positive before the league’s resumption, he said,

“A few days ago, following the @qsl protocol, I tested positive in the last Covid-19 test. Fortunately, I’m feeling ok, but I will be isolated until I am given the all-clear. When the health services allow it, I will be very eager to return to my daily routine and to work.

“I’d like to thank all the authorities, especially those working in @qsl, @qfa and @alsaddsc for supplying the means of early detection, reducing the spread of infection and that guarantees the normal development of the competition.”

Xavi has been a part of Al Sadd since May 2019 and also led them to semi-finals of last year’s AFC Champions League.

Qatar Stars League resumed on Friday this week after it was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Al Sadd is currently third in the league with five more rounds to go.
