“Australia game will be the most important in my career”, says Jemimah Rodrigues

After showcasing solid performances in the recently concluded Tri-series, Indian women’s team would be determined to give their best shot at the much anticipated 2020 World Cup, scheduled to start from 21st February 2020.

India will play the World Cup opener against the hosts Australia at Sydney cricket ground and Indian batswoman, Jemimah Rodrigues has called it has the most important game of her career.jemimah-rodrigues-indian-cricket

“I think it will be one of the most important games in my career,” Rodrigues was quoted as saying by the ICC.

“Playing a World Cup … the first match in Australia and for me first time playing (a World Cup) in Australia. Nothing is more exciting than India in Australia, so it will be a match we all will be keen to play and just excited, can’t wait to get to the first match,” she added.

India will be coming off in the tournament with a solid performance in the Tri-Series, having reached the finals of the tournament which involved teams like Australia and England. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. could also have won the final had it not been India’s collapse, courtesy a brilliant spell by Jess Jonassen.

“We’re really excited about the opening match against Australia. It’s going to be a challenge, obviously, it’s the World Cup, so the best teams are going to play against each other.”

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will commence from 21st February, with the final being held at Melbourne Cricket Ground on 8th March 2020. India are placed in group A, along with 4 other teams such as Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

India’s top-order includes the likes of Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma will look to further solidify the middle order.
