Asif Khan Smashes Superb Century Against US In WC Qualifier

Asif Khan

Asif Khan once again proved his worth as one of the most talented batsmen in the UAE, smashing a superb century in their World Cup Qualifier match against the United States on Thursday. Khan’s blistering 151-run inning helped UAE click a 1-run win over the US in a high-scoring thriller.

Khan’s 151 off 145 balls were the cornerstone of the UAE’s total of 308-4, which proved to be too much for the US to chase down. The youngster hit 12 fours and 6 sixes in his innings, and he was particularly impressive in the middle overs when he put on a 100-run partnership with Rohan Mustafa.

Khan’s century was his second in his last three ODIs, and it comes at a time when the UAE is looking to qualify for the 2023 World Cup. The team currently sit in third place in the WC Qualifier standings, and they will need to continue their good form if they are to reach the tournament in India.

Khan’s innings was not without its flaws, however. He solely took the responsibility and amassed the most runs for UAE. His batting was more than enough to make up for these mistakes, and he was the clear star of the show for the UAE.

The US were never really in the hunt in the run chase, and they eventually fell short of just 1 run and restricted 307 in 50 overs. Aaron Jones top-scored for the US with 75, but he received little support from his teammates.

The UAE’s victory was their third in their last four matches, and it keeps them in contention for a place at the 2023 World Cup. They will need to continue their good form in their remaining matches, but they will be confident of reaching the tournament after their latest win.

Asif Khan’s innings was a timely reminder of his talent, and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the UAE’s remaining matches. If he can continue to score runs at a consistent rate, then he will be a key player for the team in their quest to qualify for the World Cup.
