Asia Cup 2023 likely to be shifted to either UAE or Sri-Lanka and the tournament will not postpone!

In response to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) accusations that it would not participate unless the tournament was held in Pakistan, an Asian Cricket Council (ACC) board member has put an end to rumours that the Asia Cup could be delayed or cancelled.

On Monday, officials from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) stated that no such proposal had been sent to the member countries. According to a report in Pakistani media, the Asia Cup could be moved out of the nation if PCB declines to play matches there.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has the hosting rights for the ODI-format Asia Cup in 2023, but BCCI president Jay Shah, who additionally serves as the ACC chairman, has made it abundantly clear that the Indian cricket team will not visit Pakistan.

The PCB is considering hosting the Asia Cup using a “hybrid model,” in which Pakistan plays its matches at home while India competes at a neutral site, most likely Dubai.

As with the 2018 and 2022 tournaments, which India and Sri Lanka hosted, it is believed that the BCCI wants the whole event moved to the UAE, which has three grounds in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi.

According to the ACC source, the Indian squad was invited and promised the highest level of security and the best accommodation in the final official letter interaction among the PCB, ACC, and BCCI. The official broadcaster’s financial commitments for broadcasting agreements, which include at least two guaranteed India-Pakistan games, are the second problem. The third game could turn into a goldmine if the two clubs advance to the final.

It is understood that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) supported the BCCI during the informal conversation amongst ACC members regarding holding the tournament at a neutral site.
