News 18

Asamoah Gyan is one of those Footballers who have come to the Indian Super League (ISL) with a big reputation. The 33-year old has played top division Football in quite a few European countries and has featured in the FIFA World Cups as well.

Gyan, who is a part of the North East United squad, for ISL 2019-20 is hopeful that his arrival in the league brings more quality foreign players to India.

According to Gyan, he was able to do that to the leagues of China and the United Arab Emirates. After he joined those leagues, many players followed him there and it would be great if he does that to ISL as well.

Talking about the standard of the ISL, Gyan said when he was coming to India, he didn’t think that the standard of Football in ISL would be as high as it actually is.

It’s quite high because the domestic youngsters are itching to make their mark in the league. They are putting everything they have on the pitch.

And, the fact that some foreigners are also there in every team with their experience to go with the intensity of the youngsters, it makes the composition of the teams really strong.

“I hope I can encourage more players to come here like I did in my previous stints in the UAE and China. Honestly, the league is far more competitive than I initially thought. The young Indian players are hungry.”, Gyan was quoted saying by the Times of India.

Gyan played for the French top tier club Rennes for 5 years at the start of his career before spending a couple of years at the Italian top tier club Udinese. He has also been at Sunderland.

The veteran striker has represented his national side Ghana in a total of 107 games.
