As IPL is suspended now what will happen to T20 World Cup?

2007 T20 World Cup Results

India, as a nation Is going through a tough time as more than 4 lakh COVID-19  cases, are approaching every day and the only source of entertainment to all cricket fans during this dismal time was IPL which is also suspended for an indefinite period now.

IPL 14 which was all set to enter the second phase of the tournament has been halted now due to an increase in a number of COVID-19 cases among players, contingents, and support staff.

The question arises that BCCI who failed to organise a cash-rich league which only had 8 teams and with the T20 world cup scheduled in India in the month of October 2021 where 16 teams will be playing against each other is a nightmare for sure.

Recently the statement came from Dhiraj Malhotra, the general manager for the game development of the BCCI, stated that we have Kept UAE as plan B  but in that case also hosting rights will be taken care by India.

“So, I’m doing everything we can to make sure it happens (in India) … We will be doing the normal scenario, and worst-case scenario, so with all that we’re talking to the ICC at the moment,” Malhotra was quoted as saying to the BBC.

“It would be the UAE. We’re hoping again that it would be done by the BCCI. So, we’ll take the tournament there, but it’ll still be done by the BCCI,” he stated.

He further clarified that we are still keeping India as our A plan provided the precautionary measures are taken but his statement cannot be matched as IPL has been suspended for now due to a breach in the biosecure bubble.

“We have shortlisted nine venues and there is a possibility that we will have to cut down the number of venues to four or five. But yes, it would all depend on how the situation is then. As of now, we are not thinking of shifting the tournament elsewhere,” the manager added.
