Andy Pycroft

Andy Pycroft or Andrew John Pycroft is a former Zimbabwean cricketer born on 6 June 1956 at Salisbury (now Harare ) who played in 3 Tests 20 ODIs from 1983 to 1992. His batting style is right-handed and bowling style is the right-arm off-break bowler.

Andy Pycroft was a high-class batsman; especially he was very strong off the back foot, whose best days were behind him by the time Zimbabwe played their first Test in 1992-93. He played only 3 Tests before time and the demands of a young family brought his retirement. He also represented the Zimbabwean team after 1980 and the Western Province in the South African domestic competition.

In Test cricket, his debut match was Vs India at Harare on 18 October 1992 and he played his last test match Vs New Zealand at Harare on 7 November 1992. In ODI cricket, his debut match was Vs Australia at Nottingham on 9 June 1983 and his last ODI match was Vs England at Albury on 18 March 1992.

In Test Cricket, he scored 152 runs in 3 matches with the average of 30.40 and strike rate of 40.21. In ODI cricket he scored 295 runs in 20 matches with the average of 17.35 and strike rate of 52.67.  His highest score was 60 in Test cricket and 61 in ODI format.

In two spells he captained Zimbabwe but did not get to the job possibilities, naturally being a little too blunt for the role. After retiring he moved into administration, managing the Under-19 side, and becoming a selector and subsequently the head of the selectors.

In 2006 March, Pycroft was appointed coach of the Zimbabwe A side, until 2008 August he kept a role when he was sacked along with first-team coach Robin Brown. In 2009 March, Pycroft became a member of the Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees.
