Andrade Biography: Manuel Alfonso Andrade Oropeza, popularly known by his ring name Andrade, is a Mexican professional wrestler, currently working for World Wrestling Entertainment on the Raw brand. Oropeza holds a strong wrestling family background on his side that includes his father Jose Andrade Salas, who is better known as the wrestler Brillant, his grandfather Jose Andrade, wrestled under the ring name “El Moro” and his uncles wrestle or wrestled under the names Diamante/Moro III (Sergio Andrade).

He emerged out as a third-generation wrestling superstar to compete in lucha libre. He started his wrestling career from a very early age, making his professional wrestling debut in 2003, a month before his 14th birthday. Andrade wrestled with a ring name “Brillante Jr.” from 2003 through early 2007 for lucha libre promotion. He devoted his wrestling years from 2007 to 2014 for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (“World Wrestling Council”; CMLL). He was also seen performing for Japanese wrestling and joined New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Andrade signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment in 2015, and made his WWE in-ring debut at an NXT house show in Tampa, Florida. At NXT TakeOver: WarGames, Andrade defeated McIntyre to become the new NXT Champion. Having a new ring name Andrade “Cien” Almas, he made his WWE main roster debut in 2018, where he started his first feud with Sin Cara. He teamed up with Zelina Vega against Rusev and Lana. In 2019, his ring name was changed to Andrade. At Wrestlemania 35, Andrade competed in the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal but failed to win. During the 2019 WWE Superstar Shake-up, Andrade was drafted to Raw.

EARLY LIFE

Manuel Alfonso Andrade Oropeza was born on 3 November 1989 in Gómez Palacio, Durango, Mexico. He started to develop an interest in wrestling at a very young age. He developed his wrestling skills from his father Jose Andrade Salas, who is better known as the wrestler Brillante and his grandfather, Jose Andrade, wrestled under the ring name “El Moro”. He trained himself seriously for wrestling and later made his debut in 2003, a month before his 14th birthday.

Oropeza resides in Orlando, Florida, United States. He is currently dating WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair’s daughter Charlotte Flair. Andrade hasn’t married to anyone in the past.

PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Oropeza began his professional wrestling career in 2003 at a very young age. He was trained by his father and uncles and later made his professional wrestling debut in 2003, a month before his 14th birthday. He entered in wrestling business with a ring name Brillante Jr. in honor of his father. Brillante started his first feud with his own uncle Zafio, leading to his first-ever Lucha de Apuestas, or bet match, which he won.

In 2007, Brillante joined Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (“World Wrestling Council”; CMLL), where his ring name was changed to La Sombra. Sombra teamed up with Místico to defeat Heavy Metal and Super Nova in the first round of Torneo Gran Alternativa (“Great Alternative Tournament”). La Sombra also joined hands with El Sagrado and Volador Jr. to defeat Mr. Águila, Damián 666, and Halloween as Los Perros del Mal (“The Bad Dogs”), to bag the Mexican National Trios Championship. La Sombra also defeated Hajime Ohara to win NWA World Welterweight Championship title, which made him the youngest wrestler to hold the championship at the age of 18. During his time at CMLL, he also held several other titles that include CMLL World Tag Team Championship, NWA World Historic Welterweight Championship, CMLL Universal Championship and even won several tournaments.

Sombra also took part in Japanese wrestling for New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s (NJPW) where he defeated Nakamura to win the IWGP Intercontinental Champion, becoming the first Mexican to hold that championship. He also defeated Dragón Rojo Jr. to win the NWA World Historic Middleweight Championship. At the Royal Rumble event, Andrade made his first main roster appearance as a surprise entrant at number 7, however, he was eliminated by Randy Orton.

Andrade signed the contract with World Wrestling Entertainment in 2015 and made his WWE in-ring debut at an NXT house show in Tampa, Florida. At NXT TakeOver: WarGames, Andrade defeated McIntyre to become the new NXT Champion. Having a new ring name Andrade “Cien” Almas, he made his WWE main roster debut in 2018, where he started his first feud with Sin Cara, whom he defeated on Smack down live episode. Andrade tasted his first main roster defeat by then–WWE Champion AJ Styles in a non–title match. He teamed up with Zelina Vega against Rusev and Lana in a winning effort at Summerslam. In 2019, his ring name was changed to Andrade. At Wrestlemania 35, Andrade competed in the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal but failed to win. During the 2019 WWE Superstar Shake-up, Andrade was drafted to Raw.
