The All England badminton tournament saw an amazing women’s singles final. An Se-young from South Korea and Wang Zhi Yi from China played a fantastic match that lasted 95 minutes. The game was full of exciting shots and long rallies, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats.
People wondered if women’s singles would be as good this year. Some great players like Tai Tzu-ying and Carolina Marin had either retired or were facing injuries. Also, other former champions seemed to be losing their top form. However, An Se-young, the Korean Olympic champion, came to Birmingham ready to fight. She knew she had to work hard to win the title.
Wang Zhi Yi from China also came to play her best. She wanted to continue the great tradition of women’s singles. Both players showed amazing skill and determination. Therefore, the match turned out to be a classic.
“Yes, I’m the King now,” An Se-young said after winning the match. The final score was 13-21, 21-18, 21-18. The match reminded many of the famous Sindhu-Okuhara final from Glasgow. In the second set, An Se-young was down 17-18 and close to losing. But she kept fighting.

“I trust myself. No thinking. Just keep going. Just keep going,” An Se-young explained. Her plan was simple but effective. She kept hitting the shuttlecock to the far corners of the court. She made Wang Zhi Yi run from one side to the other.
Wang Zhi Yi scored points with her smashes and net shots. However, An Se-young kept placing her shots in the corners. She wanted to show Wang Zhi Yi that even if she returned the shuttlecock many times, An Se-young would eventually win those corner shots.
