Early life

Amit Panghal was born to Chaudhary Vijendra Singh Panghal and Usha Devi in Gurugram, Haryana, India. His brother Ajay Singh is also a state-level boxer. It was his brother who inspired him to take up boxing. Amit started learning boxing at the young age of 12 by joining Sir Chhoturam Boxing Academy in Rohtak.


As of 2018, Amit Panghal is serving Indian army as a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO). His father Vijendra Singh Panghal is a farmer by profession, but despite all financial hurdles, he inspired his children to represent the country.


The boxer made an international debut versus Sri Lanka in India, held on 2012. He won the gold medal in his debut match at the National Boxing championship in 2017. The same year he also won the bronze medal in the light flyweight category of the 2017 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships held in Tashkent. He was also qualified for AIBA World Boxing Championships.

In 2018, he won the gold medal at the Strandzha Cup in Sofia. The same year he also won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth games in the light flyweight category. In April 2019, he won the gold medal at the Asian Boxing Championship 2019 at Bangkok. He also won the Strandzha Cup in 2019, defending the title.
