Indian-born cricketer Ajay Vrajlal Lalcheta (born October 22, 1983) represents the Oman national cricket team. Before moving to Oman, Lalcheta played youth cricket in India. At the 2011 ACC Twenty20 Cup, Ajay Lalcheta made his national team debut for Oman. At the 2012 World Twenty 20 Qualifier in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which was given full Twenty20 status, Ajay Lalcheta participated in five matches.

Early Career

Lalcheta participated in multiple seasons for Saurashtra’s youth national teams. Ajay Vrajlal Lalcheta is an orthodox left-arm spinner and a left-handed batter. In the 1998–1999 Vijay Merchant Trophy, he made his debut for the Saurashtra under-16s in November 1998 at the age of 15.

Ajay Vrajlal Lalcheta scored 187 runs in that competition, second only to Saurashtra’s Mahesh Bhutia (204 runs), with the majority of those runs coming in an 87-run innings against Maharashtra’s under-16 team. Lalcheta continued to compete for Saurashtra at the under-19 and under-22 levels. His final game in a domestic Indian competition was in the C. K. Nayudu Trophy in the month of November of the year 2005.

Cricket Career in Oman

Ajay Vrajlal Lalcheta made his debut for Oman’s national team at the 2011 ACC Twenty20 Cup, where Oman’s cricket team finished third to qualify for the 2012 ICC World Twenty 20 Qualifier. Ajay Lalcheta took eight wickets at an average of 12.00, behind only Aamer Kaleem and Hemal Mehta.

He took 4/13 from 3.3 overs against Afghanistan, with Afghan Hamid Hassan as the man of the match. Lalcheta played in only five matches at the World Twenty20 Qualifier, playing in the final two group matches against Namibia and Ireland.

He has participated frequently in ACC and ICC limited-overs competitions since the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier, including the 2013 and 2015 ACC Twenty 20 Cups, the 2014 ACC Premier League, and the 2013 and 2014 WCL Division Three and Division Four cricket competitions.

Notable performances include 4/22 against Hong Kong in the 2014 ACC Premier League, 5/20 against Singapore in the 2014 WCL Division Four tournament, and a man-of-the-match 36 runs and 3/22 against Saudi Arabia in the 2015 ACC Twenty20 Cup.

International Career

On November 21, of the year 2015, Ajay played in his first Twenty 20 internationa (T20I) match for Oman against Hong Kong. Sultan Ahmed, who led the Oman national cricket team in the 2016 ICC World Twenty 20, was replaced as captain by him for Division Five of the 2016 ICC World Cricket League. In a three-match series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the month of October of the year 2016, Ajay Lalcheta made his List A debut for Oman.

He was included in Oman’s squad for the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two competition in the month of January of the year 2018. Ajay Lalcheta was included in Oman’s roster for the 2018 Asia Cup Qualifier competition in the month of August of the year 2018.

He was selected to play for Oman in the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in December. Ajay Lalcheta was selected for the Oman One Day International (ODI) team in the month of July of the year 2019 in preparation for the Scotland Tri-Nation Series. On August 18, of the year 2019, Ajay Lalcheta played in his first One Day International (ODI) match for Oman against Scotland.
