5 Players Delhi Daredevils must Pick to Win IPL 2019

IPL 2018 has been another season for Delhi Daredevils which were full of disappointments along with a lack of good fortune. While this is something they have been used to for the past few seasons, fans did expect something new on onboard while bringing their Old horse Gautam Gambhir back into the Captain’s role for his local team.

Even though Gambhir stepped down as the captain of the Daredevils team in the midst of the tournament, it didn’t bring any good for the Fortune of the whole bunch in the coming matches. Though they did performed well in bits and pieces under the captaincy of their Young Turk Shreyas Iyer, story remained same one more time for the8 already struggling Delhi side. While 2018 is gone and we are now looking into the next year’s IPL, let’s take a look at list of 5 players DD must pick in order to win the IPL 2019.

#1 Moises Henriques ( Australia)

IPL career: 969 runs in 57 matches with 38 wickets

Moises Henriques

The news of Moises Henriques going unsold at the IPL 2018 auction came as a big surprise for all the cricket fans in the world around as he was one of the key players behind the revival of Sun risers Hyderabad in the IPL journey. Moreover, he was the reason behind their IPL 2016 Title victory along with David Warner and Bhuvneshwar kumar and was rated very high by their coach Tom moody for his role as a middle order player Batsman for their team.

Now that he went unsold, Delhi got a really great chance to grab his services in the next year’s IPL Auction as Henriques comes as a trusted Middle over batsman who can play according to the match situation with equal expertise against both spin and pace bowling. Apart from that, he comes as a Handy medium fats bowler and holds the skills to grab those crucial wickets at required times for his team during the match. If we talk about his IPL record; he holds a decent average of 28.50 in batting while having 38 wickets under his belt.

#2 Shaun Marsh ( Australia)

IPL career: 2477 runs in 71 matches

Shaun Marsh

Top order batting has always remained as the biggest headaches for the Delhi team and even though they have roped in the likes of Jason Roy and Colin Munro, tables hardly turned for this struggling team during the IPL 2018. That’s where Shaun Marsh comes as a trusted batsman who can play equally well at any order and also holds a great record on the Indian pitches ever since he became a part of the IPL in its Inaugural season.

While many people don’t know about this fact, this Aussie player was the Top scoring batsman of the Inuagral IPL in 2008 and still holds an impressive batting average of 39.95 with a strike rate of 132.74 in the IPL history. Having said that, he can surely fill in the big void in the top order for the Delhi Daredevils team and hopefully bring in a hint of good fortune they require to win their first IPL title in 2019.

#3 Jonny Bairstow

IPL career : N/A

Jonny Bairstow

As we are talking about the Opening order woes of the Delhi Daredevils team, Jonny Bairstow could be another player in contention for the spot by every means. While not many would agree to his record on the Indian pitches against some class spin bowling, he can certainly be quoted as the most inform player in the white ball format right now. This isn’t just a temporary run for this prolific wicket keeper batsman as he is doing the same for the past many months for his National team across every part of the globe irrespective of the pitch or the weather condition. Moreover, if we have a look at his overall record in the T20Is, he has scored 396 runs in the 27 matches he played in his career with an average and strike rate of 24.75 and 125.71 respectively.

Although there will be some more teams who will be going behind this amazing batsman, Delhi really need to splurge all they can to bring him on board for the franchise in order to strengthen their squad for the IPL 2019.

#4 Morne Morkel ( South Africa)

IPL career: 77 wickets in 70 matches

Morne Morkel

Bowling has been one of the most problematic areas for the Delhi Daredevils team. While Trent boult has been phenomenal for them in the IPL 2018, he didn’t get the required amount of support from other bowlers in the team. That’s where the inclusion of Morne Morkel can solve a number of problems for the Delhi team in the bowling department.

While being one of the best Fast bowlers of the current era, Morkel has recently hung his boots from International cricket but his bowling skills are still not to be said as over by any means. He was one of the top performing bowlers in the recently concluded test series for his National side against Australia and scalped a five for in his last International match. As not many teams would be looking for this Old horse, it could come as a steal for the Daredevils team in the IPL 2019 auction next year.

#5 James Faulkner ( Australia)

IPL Career : 527 runs in 60 matches and 59 wickets in 60 matches

James Faulkner

Delhi Daredevils team always lacked the presence of a good all-rounder in their squad ever since they have started with their journey in the IPL history. While Chris Morris did perform in bits and pieces for them at crucial junctures, they didn’t look well in this most important department of any team combination. Aussie All-rounder James Faulkner comes as a handy option for this role and even though the all-rounder didn’t enjoyed a great season with his team in the past few months, he still possess a lot of skills to change the consequence of any game single handedly.

While the only fact that goes against his selection is his poor run in International cricket which also resulted in his exclusion from the Australian team, he is on a comeback spree after delivering some decent performances with both bat and ball in the recently concluded NatWest T20 blast in England.

He can solve most of the problems for the Delhi daredevils’ team with his left arm bowling which is combined with a number of variations. On the other hand, we don’t need to say much about his batting skills coming down the order and his past records against top International teams in the same position speaks best about the same.
