Australia’s highest ever team total in a T20 World Cup match came while chasing a target against the Pakistan national cricket team in the 2010 T20 World Cup. It was the second semi-final match of the tournament where Australia was put to the test in the second inning by Pakistan after losing the toss.

Batting first, the Pakistan players scored a huge total of 191 runs in their 20-over quota for the loss of six wickets and established a huge challenge against the Australian players. Two batters scored fifties for the team in green, and the twenty extras by Aussie bowlers helped in posting such a big total on the board.

To win the match and advance to the final of the tournament, Australia had to create history and score their highest team total ever in the history of the T20 World Cup. The Australian players demonstrated a positive mindset and came out to bat as if they wanted to take on the challenge and seemed ready to create history.

The openers, David Warner and Shane Watson, failed, and Australia was in a spot of trouble at the end of the powerplay. As soon as Brad Haddin and Michael Clarke built a partnership, they both got dismissed, and Australia sank further. A couple of more wickets fell when Cameron White and Michael Hussey came out on the crease.

At this point, Australia had almost lost the match, but they had not given up. Hussey and White displayed great mental strength and stitched together a match-winning partnership. Cameron White scored 43 runs in 31 balls, whereas Michael Hussey played a blitzkrieg inning of 60* runs in just 24 balls.

Michael Hussey’s sensational display of power hitting won Australia the match with a ball and three wickets to spare. Australia scored a total of 197 runs, which is their highest ever team total in a T20 World Cup match. Hussey was undoubtedly the Player of the Match against Pakistan that day in the semi-final.
