The first season of the Women’s Premier League T20 is scheduled to begin on March 3 following the completion of four successful seasons of the IPL Women’s T20 Challenge. The competition is anticipated to acquire a lot of traction in terms of technical and financial elements, and all 5 teams will engage in fierce competition.
All of the franchise owners joined the competition after making significant financial commitments, and the sum total for purchasing all 5 teams was staggering INR 4669 Crores. The success of this season may determine the expansion of the teams from various Indian areas.
The League is expected to change lives of many unknown young women cricketers having impeccable skills. One of the players that were sold during the WPL auction was Jammu Kashmir born Batter Jasia Akhter, who was bought for her base price of 20 Lakhs INR.
The 34-year-old represents Punjab Women in domestic cricket and is yet to make her debut for India. Her experience and exploits in domestic cricket is perhaps one of the reasons why Delhi capitals turned towards the Punjab batter. In a recent interview with Delhi Capitals, Jasia Akhter revealed her thoughts and anxiety she endure during the auction.
When she was asked about her thoughts and what went across her head when DC picked her. Akhter said that – “I returned from the ground after a training session and opened the TV to watch the WPL Auction but when my name came up, i was quick to turn off the auction (due to nervousness)”.
The 34-yer-old said that she felt very good and humble to have her alongside some of the biggest stars of World cricket and she also switched her Phone off for 15 minutes. “After i turned on my phone, my brother was the first to call and congratulate me.”
“At first i could not believe so my brother would send me a video and that’s how i believed that Delhi Capitals have signed me.”
When Jasia Akhter was asked about the player she is most excited to meet she said – “I’m extremely excited to meet Australian captain Meg Lanning and South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp.
