Test Cricket is all set to return to Pakistan after a long gap of 10 years as the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has made it clear that they are travelling to the country for a 2-match test series.
Sri Lanka had recently toured Pakistan for an ODI and a T20I series, but after some of the statements that the president of SLC had made after the tour, there were big question marks if the test series could be held in Pakistan.
The SLC president had said that the security was a bit too much on the tour and he got “fed up” with it. The PCB officials had expressed their disappointment on the statement and it seemed as if the relationship between the two boards was souring.
But, as it has turned out today, the SLC has accepted PCB’s proposal to play the test series in Pakistan. The series is going to take place next month with Rawalpindi and Karachi hosting the two games.
“We are pleased to confirm our return visit to Pakistan as, based on our earlier visit, we are comfortable and convinced conditions are suitable and conducive for Test cricket.”, the SLC CEO Ashley de Silva told the reporters.
The last time that a test series was played in Pakistan, it was back in 2009 and incidentally, it was Sri Lanka which was the visiting team on that occasion. The series wasn’t completed because of a terrorist attack on the team bus of Sri Lanka.
It remains to be seen if the first choice Sri Lankan players travel for the test series because most of them had refused to travel for the T20I and the ODI series and the Sri Lankan selectors had to pick a second string squad. Sri Lanka had, however, still won the T20I series 3-0.
