Swiss Open Success: How Sankar Muthusamy is the next biggest thing in Indian Badminton Circuit?

Badminton have been on rise in India, and credit should be given to all stakeholders who have worked hard behind the scenes to make this entity extremely popular.

In last 24 hours, Indian Badminton have once again gripped all the headlines, with Sankar Muthusamy who recorded the biggest win of his career against World Number 2 Anders Antonesan from Denmark by 18-21, 21-12 and 21-15 in the Ongoing Swiss Open Pre Quarterfinals round in Basel on late Thursday.

The game became top notch higher, as the young player lost the opening round but didn’t lose hope and brought his A game on the table, won 2nd round and eventually won the decider.

The Journey for Chennai born shutler haven’t been easy for him as he came in this tournament as Challenger ultimately  included in the main draw.

“It feels good that I did well in this ongoing tournament, and the first game against Antonesan lasted for 30 minutes, and he came after that eventually I cashed in all those opportunities in terms of playing long rallies where I was focused on one point at a time” said Sanker while talking to Media Outlets.

“My aim was to move the game away from court which help me to succeed in the crunch phase of the game”.

Sankar have been doing well at the Junior Level but lacked consistency at the highest level in 2024, due to various reasons where his focus was on defensive gameplay but 2025, offensive gameplay developed by him helped him to showcase his skills with immaculate consistency .

His long time coach Arvandan Samiappan stated the Victory for Muthusamy have come at the right time and added that his ward unpredictability in every match is difficult for anyone to counter which makes him quite invinicible.

His fast pace game along with playing strong rallies makes him a player to watch out for India.
