Sunil Gavaskar applauds this young superstar on social media

Lakshya Sen couldn’t believe what he was seeing, when the legendary Sunil Gavaskar visited the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) in Bengaluru to meet him and the young players. On Thursday, the 73-year-old Gavaskar, a part of the cricket team that won the 1983 World Cup, stopped by the academy during a routine trip to the city.

“He made the decision to see the young, eager students of the institution after attending a meeting in Bengaluru. One of his favourite sports is cricket, while the other is badminton. He spent around an hour with us here “Co-founder, director, and chief coach of the PPBA Vimal Kumar.

Later, Gavaskar shared a photo with Lakshya Sen on Instagram with the statement “My new badminton hero Lakshya Sen, after the one and only Prakash Padukone.”

While doing cricket commentary throughout the years, the renowned cricketer frequently praised Padukone, calling him one of India’s best athletes. Sen, one of India’s most productive athletes in 2022, claimed he was too star-stuck to respond.

The 21-year-old Almora native took home gold in both the India Open Super 500 and the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He also participated in the historic Thomas Cup victory. He also took home the silver medal in the All England Championships and the bronze medal at the 2021 World Championships.

When asked what topics Gavaskar spoke with the aspiring shuttlers about, Vimal said, “He also delivered some pointers to the youths, telling them to analyse what went correctly in a day to get the most out of training.
