Steve Smith To Make A Comeback In BBL After Six Years

Steve Smith is finally going to make a comeback to the Big Bash League (BBL). The former Australian captain hasn’t featured in the tournament for the last 6 years.

But, this time around, he would be available for his franchise Sydney Sixers during the playoffs of the BBL 2019-20 if the Sydney Sixes manage to get to the playoffs.

One of the reasons why Smith couldn’t feature in the BBL for such a long time was because he didn’t find room out of his hectic schedule.

He took over as the captain of the Australian cricket team across all three formats once Michael Clarke retired and remained busy with international cricket every season after that. Smith has so far played 26 matches for the Sixers, 20 in the BBL and 6 in the Champions League.

Smith has been in ominous touch in international cricket since coming off his 1-year ban for ball tampering. He has put on match winning performances for Australia in both red ball and white ball cricket in the last few months.

After playing a key role for Australia in their Ashes campaign, he was recently declared the man of the T20I series against Pakistan.

Smith is ecstatic after being drafted into the Sixers squad again. “I am excited about getting an opportunity to play for the Sydney Sixers again,” the 30-year old was quoted saying by Sportstar.

“When the schedule came out and I saw there was a chance to wear the Magenta again I jumped at the opportunity and look forward to joining up with the team after my January national team commitments have ended.”, Smith added.

The Sydney Sixers will play their first game in BBL 2019-20 against 3-time BBL champions Perth Scorchers on December 18 at the Sydney cricket ground.

The men in pink have so far won two trophies. They won the BBL back in 2011-12 and they followed it with the Champions League title in the same year.
