The 5th round of Ranji Trophy 2019/20 matches saw some exciting action. Out of the 17 matches played, 8 matches resulted in outright wins while the rest of the matches were decided on first-innings lead.
In Group A, defending Champions Vidarbha defeated Bengal by 9 wickets inside 2 days at VCA Stadium, Nagpur. Kerala registered their first win of this season beating Punjab by 21 runs in a low scoring thriller played at Thiruvananthapuram. Andhra Pradesh produced a dominating display to crush Hyderabad by an innings and 96 runs to be in the top position of the points table. The match between Gujarat and Rajasthan ended in a draw played at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur. Rajasthan earned 3 points based on first-innings lead.
Group B matches saw Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Saurashtra, Railways, earning first-innings lead. Mumbai took the first-innings lead over Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh registered 3 points with the first-innings lead over Baroda at Green Park, Kanpur. Saurashtra earning first innings lead over Karnataka and Railways first innings lead over Madhya Pradesh.
It was an amazing action in Group C with Odisha defeating Haryana in a thrilling encounter by just 1 wicket at Lahli, Rohtak. Jammu Kashmir produced a dominating display to beat Services by 173 runs at Palam A Ground, Delhi.
Maharashtra registered their first win of the tournament defeating Jharkhand. The matches between Assam and Chhattisgarh ended with Assam earning 3 points. Tripura almost registered full points but was denied by Uttarakhand. Tripura earned 3 points.
In Plate Group, Bihar registered 7 points with an innings and 183 runs win over Manipur. Goa impressed with their performance defeating Puddicherry by 81 runs in a thrilling encounter. The matches between Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Chandigarh ended in a draw with Chandigarh and Nagaland earning first-innings lead.
