Former Pakistan captain and coach Waqar Younis is known for his sharp cricketing vision and laurels he brought for his nation while he was playing as a player.

He was part of several memorable victories against arch-rivals India but he was also part of the World Cup squad who lost against India in 1996 and 2003 editions for the World Cup. Not just as a player but he was also the coach of Pakistan Team in 2011 who lost to India in the semifinals of the World Cup tournament, where India successfully clinched the 2011 World Cup Title.

Waqar was taking to news outlet as he said, “I think Pakistan got it wrong against India in 2019 starting right from the toss. I think they were hoping that the pitch will do a lot more and they will get early wickets which will put India under pressure,”.

He also talked about what went wrong for Pakistan during the 2019 World Cup Match in detail “But, India had very seasoned openers and they did not let the bowlers settle. And, the pitch did not do much and once they get going it was very difficult to stop them. They piled up so many runs to which Pakistan had no answers at all,”.

He further concluded by stating that “So, I think it was a silly mistake when, to begin with, winning the toss and asking India to bat because batting first on that pitch was the way to go and it did not help Pakistan that day and India was too good, way too good,”.

He also praised Sachin Tendulkar’s brilliant performance of 98 runs against Pakistan during the 2003 world cup encounter and described it as one of the best performances by Sachin. The best thing which he liked about Sachin was the way he faced all the quality bowling attacks right from Wasim Akram, Shoiab Akhtar, and Waqar Younis as that knock was the amazing display of Batsmanship that you can ever ask for.
