Outcast Cristiano Ronaldo to win a medal after Manchester United’s Carabao Cup 2022/23 triumph?

After spending millions of money on transfers and following years of tussle and trying, English giants Manchester United have won a major domestic silverware for the first time since 2017. The Red Devils traveled to Wembley Stadium yesterday to take on Newcastle United for this year’s Carabao Cup final in what was Newcastle’s first final in almost 68 years.

It was also for the first time that the Manchester based club won its major silverware under head coach Erik Ten Hag who took over the managerial role last July. The Dutchman has thoroughly transformed the outlook of the team and has also become only the 2nd Man United manager to win a trophy in their first season.

At Wembley yesterday, Man United registered a 2-0 win to shatter the hopes of Newcastle fans and players to deliver a trophy in 6 decades. United’s summer signing Casemiro landed the first blow in the 33rd minute while Rashford doubled the lead 6 minutes later.

Ten Hag’s attacking and enthusiastic style of play has definitely brighten up countless United fans who were hoping for only a man like him to arrive. Although, they did struggle in the initial months of the season and the Dutchman also took several major steps to ensure the goodwill of the team.

One of the strange steps was that he enabled Cristiano Ronaldo from exiting the club during the winter transfer window. It might have looked rough at first but the Portuguese’s exit did wonders for United. And with the Carabao Cup win last night, there are questions if Ronaldo will get a winners medal or not.

If we go by the rules and regulations of EFL then we cannot rule out Ronaldo earning a medal too but it is totally up to the club if they want to hand him the medal or not after an infamous contract termination. There were 27 players in Manchester United’s squad this season and there is space for 3 more medals at least.

“In addition to the Cup, the Management Committee shall present thirty souvenirs to the winning Club in the Final Tie; and thirty souvenirs to the losing Club in the Final Tie. Additional souvenirs may be presented with the consent of the Management Committee but shall be at the cost of the requesting Club.”
