New Zealand vs Sri Lanka Match Summary: Much was anticipated from this encounter, but it turned out to be a pale match with zero interest. New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.

Sri Lanka came on to bat and lost its opener Lahiru Thirimanne in the first over at just 4 Runs.

But then Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Perera consolidated the innings and stood for 40 runs partnership of 47 balls, but then Kusala Perera was dismissed at 29 followed by Kusal Mendis at 0.

Dhananjaya De Silva too couldn’t contribute much with the bat and was adjudged out at just 4. Angelo Mathews and Jevan Mendis  too failed with the bat at 0 and 1 respectively.

In the meantime Dimuth Karunaratne completed his fifty but was soon dismissed at 52. Deep down the order Thisara Perera played a fighting knock of 27 of just 23 balls. The last 3 wickets fell in a succession of 8 runs and Sri Lanka was bundled out at 136/ 10 in 29.2 overs.

New Zealand opened the innings in a grand fashion and achieved the target of 137 runs without any wicket and in just 16.1 overs. Martin Guptill remained not out at 73 of just 51 balls with the help of 8 fours and 2 sixes. Colin Munro remained not out at 58 of 47 balls that included 6 fours and 1 six.

Matt Henry was declared the Man of the Match for his 3/29 in 7 overs.
