Birmingham Phoenix suffered a crushing 6-wicket defeat to Welsh Fire in the Men’s Hundred on Thursday night, with their batting and bowling both coming in for criticism.

In reply, the Fire got off to a flying start, with openers Joe Clarke and Stephen Eskinazi putting on a crucial 67-run for the first wicket. The star of the show for the Fire was their opener Stephen Eskinazi, who played a match-winning inning of 43 to guide his team an easy win. He was awarded player of the match for his brilliant knock.
What went wrong for the Phoenix?
Batting
The Phoenix’s batting was their Achilles heel on Thursday night. They never really got going, and were always playing catch-up. Liam Livingstone and Ben Duckett were the only batsmen to make any significant contribution, and the rest of the team failed to fire.
