Lorcan John Tucker, an Irish cricketer and wicket-keeper batter, was born on September 10, of the year 1996.
Cricket Career
In the month of September of the year 2016, John Tucker made his debut for the Ireland cricket team on the international stage. John Tucker was a member of Ireland’s squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Lorcan John Tucker currently competes in the ILT20 with MI Emirates. Lorcan Tucker was one of nineteen players who received a central contract from Cricket Ireland in January 2020.
Personal Life
Barry Tucker, the father of Lorcan John Tucker, played cricket and is currently the president of the Pembroke Cricket Club in Dublin. Barry Tucker has previously represented the same team. Two of his brothers that play cricket are Donncha and Fiachra Tucker. Lorcan Tucker and Fiachra co-played at the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, and during a group-stage encounter against eventual runners-up India, Lorcan Tucker made an important 57 in a losing cause. Rahul Dravid, the then-Indian Under-19 head coach, was impressed by Lorcan Tucker’s performance.
Domestic Career
In the Interprovincial Cup on June 4, of the year 2017, Lorcan John Tucker made his List A debut for Leinster Lightning. Lorcan Tucker participated in his first-ever first-class match for Leinster Lightning on June 5, of the year 2017, as part of the Interprovincial Championship. Lorcan Tucker was one of five cricketers who received an Emerging Player Contract from Cricket Ireland in April 2019, in advance of the domestic season.
In the month of July of the year 2019, Tucker was chosen to play for the Dublin Chiefs in the first-ever Euro T20 Slam cricket tournament. However, the competition was postponed the following month.
Lorcan Tucker was recruited by MI Emirates in December 2022 to play in the inaugural season of the International competition T20 franchise competition, which is located in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). On January 29, he faced off against the Desert Vipers. Tucker had a strike rate of 120 and scored 85 runs in 4 innings during the competition. In a game against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Lorcan Tucker was controversially removed from the game when on 33(23).
Six Irish players, including him, signed up to compete in the 2022 USA T20 Open.
Tucker was acquired by the Colombo Strikers in June 2023 in preparation for the Lanka Premier League that year.
International Career
Tucker made his T20I (Twenty 20 International) debut against Hong Kong in the year 2016. Lorcan Tucker was called up for Ireland’s squad in the 2017 Desert T20 (Twenty 20) Challenge and was named in the Oman Quadrangular Series. He also played in Ireland’s Test, One Day International (ODI), and T20I (Twenty 20 International)squads against Afghanistan in India and Afghanistan in India. In 2019, Tucker made his ODI (One Day International) debut against England in the 2019 Ireland Tri-Nation Series. Lorcan Tucker played one match in the 2019 ICC (International Cricket Council) T20 (Twenty 20) World Cup Qualifier tournament in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) but did not bat. Tucker was selected for Ireland’s 2021 tour of Bangladesh and scored 82* in the third unauthorized ODI (One Day International).
Breakthrough
In late 2021, Tucker made a significant breakthrough in Ireland, scoring 141 runs in two T20Is (Twenty 20 Internationals) against the USA (United States of America) and South Africa. Lorcan John Tucker improved his form in T20Is (Twenty 20 International) and was named in Ireland’s squad for the 2022 ICC (International Cricket Council) Men’s T20 World Cup. In the year 2023, Tucker was named in Ireland’s Test squad for tours of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, making his maiden Test century. Lorcan John Tucker became the second Irishman to score a century in Tests and Test debut, and the first wicket-keeper to score a century on debut. Lorcan John Tucker also became the second wicket-keeper batsman to score a century on debut on away soil after England’s Ben Foakes.
