Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Southern Brave set a target of 133 runs for Birmingham Phoenix within 100 balls. The Brave’s innings were marked by crucial contributions from their top-order batters. Smriti Mandhana’s confident knock of 39 runs off 32 balls laid the foundation, while Danni Wyatt’s well-paced 43 off 33 balls ensured a competitive score. Maia Bouchier and Georgia Adams chipped in with 19 and 9 runs respectively, further bolstering the total. Chloe Tryon’s unbeaten 3 runs off 3 balls and Maitlan Brown’s quick 7 off 3 balls towards the end boosted the Brave’s final tally to 132/4.

However, it was during Birmingham Phoenix’s chase that Southern Brave’s bowlers truly shone. Lauren Bell’s immaculate control and strategic variations earned her figures of 2 wickets for 27 runs in her allotted 20 balls, putting pressure on Phoenix’s top order. Georgia Adams, not only contributing with the bat earlier but also with the ball, picked up 2 wickets for 25 runs in her 20 balls. The pivotal moment came when Anya Shrubsole, the Brave’s captain, took charge with the ball. She showcased her experience and skill, claiming 2 wickets for 30 runs in her 20-ball spell.

Bell’s and Adams’ disciplined bowling limited the opposition’s run-scoring opportunities and created chances for wickets at crucial junctures. Shrubsole’s ability to strike with breakthroughs hindered Phoenix’s chase, leaving them struggling at crucial intervals.

Birmingham Phoenix’s batting, while showing glimpses of resistance, couldn’t withstand the combined prowess of Bell, Adams, and Shrubsole. Phoenix’s skipper, Eve Jones, managed a respectable 21 runs, Sophie Devine’s quick 4 runs included a boundary, and Sterre Kalis contributed 20 runs. However, it was Amy Jones’ valiant effort of 33 runs and Erin Burns’ brisk 29 runs that brought Phoenix closer to the target. Unfortunately for Phoenix, their innings ultimately faltered under the pressure applied by Brave’s disciplined bowling attack.

In the end, Birmingham Phoenix fell just 3 runs short of the target, ending their innings at 129/8 within the stipulated 100 balls. Southern Brave’s triumphant display of skill, led by Lauren Bell, Georgia Adams, and Anya Shrubsole, solidified their victory and showcased their ability to defend a competitive total through exceptional teamwork and precision bowling. This match further underscored the significance of well-coordinated bowling efforts in limited-overs formats like The Hundred.
