Joe Root Hits 31st Test Century, 10th Against India

Joe Root, amassing an impressive total of 11,599 runs in 139 matches, currently holds the fifth position in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test Men’s Rankings as a top-ranked batsman.

Joe Root showcased his batting brilliance by smashing nine fours in a match played in JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi, forming a magnificent partnership of 113 runs with Ben Foakes. Despite Foakes’ solid innings of 47, Root continued to dominate the crease with his determined quest for runs.

In 2023, he scored a century against Australia, but struggled in the next 14 innings, with just two half-centuries.

However, he bounced back with a brilliant 100 against India, setting a new record and reaffirming his status as a cricketing legend.

He sticks to classical cricket, avoiding fancy shots. This has been Root’s style in India in 2021 – playing spinners with ease. Coming into this game under pressure due to low scores and uncharacteristic, Root responds with a fantastic innings.

At the stumps of Day 1 of IND vs ENG 4th Test, England has posted a commendable total of 302 runs for 7 wickets. With the help of Joe Root’s ton and gritty performance from Jonny Bairstow (38), Ben Foakes (47) and Ollie Robbinson’s unbeaten 31, England is now in a strong position.

Englishmen will look to build on this momentum and try to post a huge total. One the other hand, India will try to bowl them out early in the morning on Day 2. Only time will tell who will come out on top.
