Ishan Kishan scores fifty in India’s chase, India win by five wickets

The West Indies were bundled out by the Indian bowlers for just 114 runs in 23 overs in the first ODI of the three-match series. Team India were set a target of 115, which they successfully chased within 23 overs for the loss of five wickets.

It was not exactly the type of batting performance the team management had expected from the players, as the batters of the Indian team seemed very casual with their approach. Some dismissals were unlucky as well, but the team will surely look to improve on this performance in the coming matches.

Rohit Sharma decided not to open the inning and give the youngsters a chance to play and win this match for the team. Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill opened the inning, but Gill was out soon in the fourth over of the inning at a score of 18/1.

Suryakumar Yadav came in to bat next and stitched a partnership with Kishan but failed to leave an impact on the match. Hardik Pandya was run out in a very unfortunate manner, and the scoreboard read 70/3. Ishan Kishan and Jadeja looked settled to take the team home, but Kishan got out playing a rash shot after reaching his half-century.

Shardul Thakur was in next, and he was also out soon with a score of 97/5. Finally, Rohit Sharma came into bat and finished the match with a boundary, along with Ravindra Jadeja. It did not get difficult for Team India at any stage during the chase, but they could have batted in a better manner.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli decided to not bat and give the youngsters a chance, but the youngsters could not rise to the occasion. Ishan Kishan was the star of the chase, scoring a brilliant 52 runs off just 46 balls.

The spinners of the West Indies bowled beautifully and kept the Indian batters under pressure. The series is now 1-0 in favor of India. The next match will be played at the same venue on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. IST.
